The Place de la Victoire is a major circulatory junction of four main roads connecting to and from the station, with various side roads and the modern residential area.
Together with the Port de Aquitaine it dates back to the 18th century when it was one of main entrances into the city through the city walls and remains so today.
It is a meeting point specially loved by students, with pleasant terraces and coffee shops during the day and a lively pub scene at night.
It offers a varied choice of restaurants and many trading and service companies are based in the neighbourhood. It is at the head of Rue St Catherine, one of the longest walking routes in the city.
